Population 189,000 (1993). Located in the southwest of Portsea Island, between Portsmouth Bay and Langston Bay, an inlet of the English Channel, it forms a peninsula connected to the mainland by a bridge. There is also a bridge connecting it to the port city of Gosport on the opposite shore of Portsmouth Bay, and it faces the Isle of Wight across the Spithead Channel. …
