Opava - Opava (English spelling)

A city in the northern part of Moravia in the Czech Republic. Population 61,771 (2001). German name Troppau. An industrial city on the banks of the Opava River, a tributary of the Odra River, its main industries are mining equipment manufacturing, food and textile manufacturing. Historically, it belonged to Silesia (German name Silesien) and originated in the 13th century. After the War of the Austrian Succession in 1742, it became the capital of what remained of Silesia as Austrian territory. In 1820, the victorious nations of the Napoleonic Wars held a conference in this city, and Russia, Prussia and Austria decided to intervene in the liberal movement in the Iberian Peninsula and Naples (Tropau Protocol). Many historical buildings are preserved in the old town, and there is also the Silesian Museum.

チェコのモラビア地方北部の都市。人口6万1771（2001）。ドイツ語名トロパウTroppau。オドラ（ドイツ語名オーデル）川支流オパバ川岸の工業都市で、鉱山設備製造、食品、繊維工業が主要な工業である。歴史的にはシレジア（ドイツ語名シュレージエン）に属し、13世紀に起源をもち、1742年オーストリア継承戦争後、シレジアのオーストリア領として残った部分の首都となった。1820年、ナポレオン戦争の勝利国がこの町で会議を開き、ロシア、プロイセン、オーストリアの3国はイベリア半島とナポリの自由主義運動への介入を決めた（トロパウ議定書）。旧市街には多くの歴史的建造物が保存され、シレジア博物館もある。
