Contradictions within the People

A revolutionary political theory put forward by Mao Zedong in China. China's national flag, the five-star red flag, has one large star and four small stars. The large star represents the Communist Party of China, and the small stars represent workers, peasants, national capitalists, and intellectuals. This category represents the people, and is contrasted with the enemy (foreign imperialism, comprador-bureaucrat capitalists, and landlords). Contradictions within the people refer to contradictions among the five-star groups. Mao Zedong argued that contradictions between the enemy and the people should be handled differently from contradictions among the people themselves. The former should be handled violently, while the latter should be handled peacefully.

中国で，毛沢東が提起した革命政治理論。中国の国旗，五星紅旗は一つの大星と四つの小星をもつ。大きな星は中国共産党，小さな星は労働者，農民，民族資本家，知識人を表す。これが人民の範疇であり，敵(外国帝国主義，買弁官僚資本家，地主)と対をなす。人民内部の矛盾とは五つ星の集団のあいだの矛盾をさす。毛沢東は敵と人民とのあいだの矛盾と人民間の矛盾とでは，その処理方法は違うと主張した。前者は暴力的に処理さるべきだが，後者は平和裏に処理さるべきものとされる。
