Keto Acids - Ketosans

Also called ketonic acid. A carboxylic acid containing a ketone carbonyl group. RCOCOOH is called an α-keto acid, and as the relative positions of the two functional groups become more distant, they are successively called β-, γ-, δ-keto acids, etc. β-Keto acids are synthesized by condensing two molecules of an ester with the action of sodium ethoxide, and other keto acids are synthesized by the oxidation of the corresponding hydroxy acids. β-Keto acid esters exist as an equilibrium mixture of typical keto-enol tautomers. The α-methylene group of β-keto acids is highly reactive and can be deprotonated with the action of sodium ethoxide, and can be easily α-alkylated by reacting with an alkyl halide.

ケトン酸(ketonic acid)ともいう．ケトンのカルボニル基を含んでいるカルボン酸をいう．RCOCOOHをα-ケト酸といい，二つの官能基の相対位置が離れるにつれて順次β-，γ-，δ-ケト酸などとよぶ．β-ケト酸は，2分子のエステルをナトリウムエトキシドの作用で縮合させて合成し，このほかのケト酸は相当するヒドロキシ酸の酸化によって合成される．β-ケト酸エステルは，典型的なケト-エノール互変異性体の平衡混合物として存在する．β-ケト酸のα-メチレン基は反応性が強く，ナトリウムエトキシドの作用で脱プロトンされ，さらにはハロゲン化アルキルを反応させれば容易にα-アルキル化される．
