Red pulp

The spleen is a small organ that is located in the spleen.

The surface is covered with a fibrous capsula containing smooth muscle, and the cut surface of the spleen is distinguished into a brick-colored part called red pulp and a grayish-white, frothy nodule called white pulp. The structure of the red pulp was elucidated by the Viennese surgeon Theodor Billroth (1826-94).
