Located in the center of New Zealand's South Island, it is the second highest mountain in the country after Mount Cook. It has an elevation of 3,498m. It is one of the high mountains in the central Southern Alps, and is in the range just north of Mount Cook. Its rugged shape covered in snow and ice is very similar to that of Mount Cook. Several glaciers span the mountain, including the Tasman Glacier (29km long, 9km wide), the largest in the country, which is located on the eastern slope between the mountain and Mount Cook. The Tasman Range is located in the northwest of the South Island and is not related to this mountain. [Taniuchi Tatsu] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
