Ringer, S.

…Also called Ringer's solution. It was the first physiological salt solution formulated by British physiologist Sydney Ringer (1835-1910) in 1882 for an experiment on perfusion of an isolated frog heart. He discovered that when perfusing a frog's heart with physiological salt solution instead of blood, the heart would stop beating immediately if salt alone was used, but adding calcium chloride and potassium chloride to the solution allowed the heart to continue beating for a long time. This solution contains 8.6g of sodium chloride, 0.3g of calcium chloride, and 0.33g of potassium chloride per 1000ml, and the positive ions of sodium, calcium, and potassium, which would have toxic effects if used alone, cancel each other out to maintain balance. …

…リンガー液ともいう。イギリスの生理学者リンガーSydney Ringer(1835‐1910)が，1882年カエルの摘出心臓の灌流実験のために処方した最初の生理的塩類溶液。彼は，カエルの心臓を血液の代りに生理食塩水で灌流するとき，食塩だけではすぐ拍動が止まってしまい不十分であるが，これに塩化カルシウムと塩化カリウムを加えると長く活動を続けることを発見した。この液は，1000ml中に塩化ナトリウム8.6g，塩化カルシウム0.3gおよび塩化カリウム0.33gを含み，単独にあれば毒作用を呈するはずのナトリウム，カルシウム，カリウムの陽イオンが互いに打ち消し合って平衡を保っている。…
