This technique is unique to the clavichord and is not found on other keyboard instruments. Its sensitive and delicate tone made it the perfect instrument for the "empfindsamer stil" style, which aimed for a natural expression of emotion. It was very popular in Germany in the late 18th century, and CPE Bach wrote many works for the clavichord, including "Farewell to my Silbermann Clavier" (Wq.66, 1781), and also wrote a detailed account of the characteristics and playing techniques of the clavichord in his book "Essay on the correct technique of playing the clavier" (Part 1, 1753, Part 2, 1762). *Some of the terminology that refers to the "hyperemotional style" is listed below.
