Wilson, JT

...This cycle applies not only to the past 200 million years, during which plate movement can be reconstructed from records on the ocean floor, but also to geological phenomena in the Paleozoic Era or earlier (200 million years ago or earlier). This idea has been repeatedly asserted since the 1960s by J. Tuzo Wilson (1908-93) of Canada, but its validity has only recently been widely recognized. At the Penrose Conference of the Geological Society of America held in January 1975, the name Wilson Cycle was proposed and adopted. ...

From [Transform Fault]

...A fault (diagram) that is generated when two plates slide sideways relative to each other along their boundary. It is a completely new concept that emerged from the ocean floor spreading theory, and was first proposed in 1965 by Canadian J. Tuzo Wilson (1908-93). Transform means replacing or converting one convergent or divergent plate boundary (corresponding to trench (T) and mid-ocean ridge (R), respectively) to another plate boundary. There are R-R, R-T, and T-T transform faults, but the R-R type, which connects ridges by shifting them, is the most common.
