Japanese: 一の鳥居 - いちのとりい

① The first torii gate counting from the entrance of the shrine toward the main shrine building. The outermost torii gate. In rare cases, it is counted backwards from the main shrine building. *Ryōjin Hishō (around 1179) 2 "The shaman (shrine maiden) dancing at the first torii gate of Sumiyoshi" ② Especially in the early modern period, in Edo, it refers to the first torii gate of Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine in Fukagawa. *Sharakuhon Kokei Sanshō (1787) "The Hachiman-sama festival is on the 14th and 15th of August. <Omitted> The first torii gate falls on Yoyogiba."
