...The first aquarium was established in Bordeaux, France, in 1830 as an attached facility to a research institute, and the first aquarium was established in London Zoo in 1853. The word aquarium was first used by the British ornithologist Philip Gosse (1854). In Japan, Ueno Zoo established a "fish peeper" six months after its opening in 1882, and this is considered to be the first aquarium.
