[2] A mountain in the northern part of Yawata City, Kyoto Prefecture. It faces Mount Tennozan across the Yodo River. It serves as the western gateway to Kyoto, and has often been a battlefield since the period of the Northern and Southern Courts. Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine is located on the summit. [1] 〘名〙① けわしい男性的な山。一対の山のうち、一方を男性に見たてていう語。男岳(おだけ)。⇔女山。② 兵法で、見晴らしがきいて敵が攻め上るのに不便な山をいう。陽山(ようざん)。⇔女山。③ 兵庫県伊丹地方から産出される銘酒。※洒落本・金錦三調伝（1783）「酒は二合ばかし。もちろんけんびしか男山」④ 香木の名。分類は伽羅(きゃら)。百二十種名香の一つ。[2] 京都府八幡(やわた)市の北部にある山。淀川を隔てて天王山と対する。京都への西の関門をなし、南北朝以来しばしば戦場となる。山頂に石清水八幡宮がある。標高一四二メートル。雄徳山。八幡山。御山(おやま)。
