Na ₂ SO ₄ (142.04). It occurs naturally in hot spring water as thenardite, and the decahydrate is called Glauber's salt or Glauber's salt. The decahydrate is obtained by neutralizing sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide aqueous solution with sulfuric acid and cooling it. It becomes anhydrous when dried at 100 °C. The anhydrous form is a colorless orthorhombic crystal. Density 2.66 g cm ^-3 . Melting point 884 °C. It transforms to monoclinic at 222 °C and to hexagonal at 276 °C. Its solubility in 100 g of water is 4.76 g (0 °C), 19.4 g (20 °C), 49.6 g (32.45 °C), and 42.7 g (100 °C). It is insoluble in ethanol. It becomes a hydrate when left in moist air. The decahydrate is a colorless monoclinic crystal. Density: 1.46 g cm ^-3 . Efflorescent, melts at 32.4 °C and begins to dehydrate, becoming anhydrous at 100 °C. Easily soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol. When a saturated aqueous solution of Na 2 SO 4 at 33 °C is cooled to 5 °C, a heptahydrate precipitates. The heptahydrate is a metastable tetragonal crystal that is soluble in water, but insoluble in ethanol. Na₂SO₄(142.04)．天然にはテナルド石として温泉水中に産出し，十水和物はボウ硝，グラウバー塩とよばれている．炭酸ナトリウムまたは水酸化ナトリウム水溶液を硫酸で中和して冷却すると，十水和物が得られる．これを100 ℃ で乾燥すると，無水物となる．無水物は無色の斜方晶系結晶．密度2.66 g cm^－3．融点884 ℃．222 ℃ で単斜晶系に，また276 ℃ で六方晶系に転移する．水100 g に対する溶解度は4.76 g(0 ℃)，19.4 g(20 ℃)，49.6 g(32.45 ℃)，42.7 g(100 ℃)．エタノールに不溶．湿った空気中に放置すると水和物となる．十水和物は無色の単斜晶系結晶．密度1.46 g cm^－3．風解性で，32.4 ℃ で融解して脱水がはじまり，100 ℃ で無水物となる．水に易溶，エタノールに不溶．33 ℃ の飽和水溶液を5 ℃ に冷却すると七水和物が析出する．七水和物は準安定な正方晶系結晶で，水に可溶，エタノールに不溶．乾燥剤，寒剤，医薬品(下剤)，化学試薬，食品添加物，飼料添加物，染料，パルプの製造，ガラスの製造，洗剤のビルダー，入浴剤などに用いられる．[CAS 7757-82-6:Na₂SO₄][CAS 7727-73-3:Na₂SO₄･10H₂O]
