〘Noun〙 Buddhist term. One of the Five Houses and Seven Schools of Chinese Zen Buddhism. Its founders were Reiyu ( 771-853 ), who lived in Huishan in Tanzhou (Changsha, Hunan Province), and his disciple Huijaku ( 814-890 ), who lived in Yangshan. It flourished for about 150 years from the end of the Tang Dynasty through the Five Dynasties, but was merged into the Obaku-affiliated Rinzai sect during the Song Dynasty. It did not reach Japan. 〘名〙 仏語。中国禅宗の五家七宗の一つ。潭州(湖南省長沙)の潙山に住んだ霊祐(七七一‐八五三)と仰山に住んだその門人の慧寂(八一四‐八九〇)を祖とする。唐末より五代にかけて約一五〇年間栄えたが、宋代に黄檗系の臨済宗に併合された。日本には伝わらなかった。
