Mundigak (English spelling)

Japanese: ムンディガク（英語表記）Mundigak

A prehistoric site located in southeastern Afghanistan, about 32 km northwest of Kandahar. Excavated by J. Kazar between 1951 and 1958, seven cultural periods were revealed. The oldest, Phase I, was the period when people began to settle, when potter's wheels and copper were used, and at the end of this period, pottery patterns indicate contact with southern Turkmenistan. Phase II was a period of stagnation, when handmade pottery gave way to stone seals, which first appeared. Phase III was a period of development subdivided into six architectural periods, and extensive exchanges were evident with Baluchistan, southern Turkmenistan, southern Iran, and other areas.

アフガニスタン南東部，カンダハール北西約32kmにある先史遺跡。1951‐58年にJ.カザルが発掘し，7時期の文化をあきらかにした。最古のI期は定着にはいった時代で，ろくろ，銅を使用し，その末期は土器文様上，南部トルクメニスタンと連絡がみとめられる。II期は沈滞期で手づくね土器に代わり，石製印章がはじめて現れる。III期は六つの建築期に細分される発展時代で，バルーチスターン，トルクメニスタン南部，イラン南部などと広範な交流が認められる。
