One of Japan's oldest travelogues. It is quoted in four places in the Chronicles from Emperor Kōtoku to Emperor Saimei as an annotated supplement to the main text of the Nihon Shoki, and provides information on the shipping routes between Japan and Tang China at the time, as well as the actions of envoys in Tang China. The author, Iyoshi Hironori, continued to negotiate with Tang China after returning to Japan, and although he was briefly arrested in the Prince Otsu incident, he became an envoy to Silla during the reign of Empress Jito, and participated in the establishment of the Taiho Code during the reign of Emperor Mommu. Another similar record is the Naniwa no Onito no Shiyo, a record of envoys sent to Tang China. [Aoki Kazuo] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
