Japanese: 好色敗毒散 - こうしょくはいどくさん

Ukiyo-zoshi. Written by Yashiki Jibun. Published in 1703 (Genroku 16). Five volumes. It consists of 15 erotic short stories mainly about Shinmachi in Osaka, Shimabara in Kyoto, and Yoshiwara in Edo. It is a masterpiece of skill that sets up a strange case and leads to an unexpected ending. Compared to his first work, Koshoku Mankintan, the plot has more twists and turns and is more cohesive, reflecting the taste-oriented trend in the world of ukiyo-zoshi at the time. Yashiki Jibun is thought to be a haiku poet from Osaka, but his identity is unknown and he has not produced any works since. [Hasegawa Tsuyoshi]
