Former name of the province. Also called Ishu. Belonging to the Saikaido, currently Iki Island, Nagasaki Prefecture. In the Engishiki, it is listed as Shimokuni and 2 Gun. It has long been valued as a key location on the Korean route. In the Gishiwajinden, it appears as "Ichi (a large) province," and later a Sakimori (defence force) was established.
