During his stay in Lima, he began writing his Latin treatise "Investigations into the Laws of the Indies" (Part 1, 1629; Part 2, 1639), a vast and excellent work on laws and systems related to the Indies. He translated it into Spanish himself and gave it the title "Discourse on the Policy of the Indies."
