al-salām 'alaykum (English spelling) alsalamalaykum

…However, the reason why greetings, which served to distinguish between high and low in the Confucian world, were able to transcend Confucianism and become part of everyday life in society in general, is probably because the actions and words used in greeting show consideration for the other person, and as a result, have the power to give the other person a sense of security.
[Islamic Society]
The greeting between Muslims is as follows: al-salām 'alaykum (peace upon you!) and wa-'alaykum al-salām (peace upon you!) as stipulated by the Quran (10:10, 51:25). To show respect, the right hand may be opened toward the other person and raised to head height (this is said to have been the custom of saluting in the European and Japanese military).
