...A general term for a group of thinkers who were active since the 1930s through the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt, Germany, and its journal, Zeitschrift für Sozialforschung. It includes M. Horkheimer, TW Adorno, W. Benjamin, H. Marcuse, E. Fromm and Franz Leopold Neumann (1900-54) who later parted ways with the institute, as well as the younger generation of thinkers such as J.
