A medieval samurai family whose main territory was Hirayamago in Musashi Province. A leading branch of one of the Seven Musashi Party Western Parties, its ancestor was Sueshige (one theory says Naosue). As a member of the Minamoto clan, Sueshige played an active role in the Hogen and Heiji Rebellions, and later joined Minamoto no Yoshitsune's army in pursuit of the Taira clan, achieving numerous military feats. However, because Sueshige and Yoshitsune were appointed to official positions without Minamoto no Yoritomo's permission, Yoritomo scolded them, saying, "It is an unprecedented appointment to an official position, with a carefree face." His descendants sided with the Wada side in the Wada War of 1213 (Kenpo 1), and fell into decline. Later, in the Muromachi period, Hirayama Mikawa Nyudo, who appeared as a leading and powerful local lord in the Bushu Southern Rebellion, which was under the influence of the Kanto Kanrei Uesugi clan, was probably a descendant of the Sueshige clan.
