Salmakis

…A compound word of Hermes and Aphrodite. According to Ovid's Metamorphoses, he was the son of Hermes and Aphrodite, and was said to have been in love with the spring nymph Salmakis and to have become one with her, thus becoming both male and female. As a work of art, a standing statue of Hermaphroditus was created in the mid-4th century BC (Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale), and is considered to be the oldest type.
