Salmantica

…Located on the Tormes River, it was an important Ibero settlement. It was a key transportation point from the center of the peninsula to the west and northwest, and during the Roman Empire it was known as Salmantica. During the Reconquista Wars, it was a stronghold for the Muslims, who fought a fierce resistance against the Christians who had crossed the Duero River to invade.
