A travel guide published by the French company Hachette. It is a standard travel guide on par with the British one by Murray and the German one by Baedeker. It is a thick, small book with a dark blue hard cover, but paperbacks for smaller cities have also been produced. Hachette had been publishing the Guide Joanne, a guidebook detailing history and art history, since the early 1850s, but they turned their attention to the development of France's railways and published the Guide Bleu, a guidebook for railway travelers, in separate volumes for each region of France and each region of Europe, which was well received (the name Guide Bleu was adopted in 1919).
