Bhavnagar (English spelling)

An industrial city on the east coast of the Katiawar Peninsula in Gujarat, western India. Population 402,000 (1991). It was founded in 1723 by the Gohel clan, a Rajput tribe that settled in the area in the 13th century. During the British colonial period, it was the capital of the princely state of the same name, and was the city until independence. The city distributes cotton, rice, and timber, and in addition to traditional industries such as cotton and silk textiles and musical instruments, it is home to industries such as oil refining, bakelite, rubber, pulp, paper, and steel furniture. Its outer port is Limbuda Bhandar.

インド西部，グジャラート州カティアーワール半島東岸の工業都市。人口40万2000(1991)。13世紀に同地一帯に定着したラージプート族のゴーヘール氏族が1723年に建設した。英領時代には同名の藩王国の主都となり，独立時にいたった。綿花，米，木材を集散し，綿および絹織物，楽器などの伝統工業のほか，製油，ベークライト，ゴム，パルプ，製紙，スティール家具などの工業が立地する。リンブダ･バンダルを外港とする。
