Jute paper - Oumashi

Also called "koumashi." A type of hemp paper. Paper made from deciduous plants belonging to the Tilia family. In ancient times, it was used for imperial edicts during the Tang Dynasty in China, and in Japan it was mainly used for copying Buddhist scriptures. 「こうまし」とも呼ばれる。麻紙 (あさがみ) の一種。シナノキ科に属する落葉草木を原料としてすいた紙。古くは中国唐代において詔書に用いられ，日本では写経用としておもに利用されていた。現代では化学パルプなどとの混合で封筒，荷札，型紙などとして利用されている。
