...A perennial herb of the Saxifragaceae family that grows in clusters on shady rocks in the mountains (illustration). It is often cultivated as an ornamental plant in people's gardens and as hedges. The plant grows long, thread-like red runners, which produce new buds at the tips and take root, propagating. The leaves are basal and long-stalked, reniform, with shallowly lobed edges, dark green on the upper surface with whitish markings, sometimes mixed with dark red, and dark red on the underside. The plant is generally hairy. In May and June, it produces 15-40 cm flower stalks that produce cone-shaped cymes and many bilaterally symmetrical white flowers. ...
