Movement (Korean literature) - gakusho

[Middle Ages - Goryeo Dynasty]
The civil service examinations, which were held early and used Chinese poetry and prose, reached the highest level, but songs in the style of folk songs rapidly declined when they entered Goryeo. However, some folk songs were passed down orally, and later, during the Yi Dynasty, they were included in the "Yakhakgibom" (1493) and "Gakjangsyeo" (compiled during the reign of Jungjong and Myeongjong in the first half of the 16th century), and we can learn the Korean lyrics. Only about 20 of these "Koryo folk songs" remain, but all of them have been passed down for a long time because they are excellent songs. "Simogyoku," which sings of longing for one's mother, "Kashiri" and "Seosanbyeolgyoku," which lament the sad separation from a lover, and "Dongdong," which is a seasonal style, are the quintessence of Korean classical poetry.
