A town in Myozai County in the northeastern part of Tokushima Prefecture, occupying the lowlands on the south bank of the Yoshino River. The main settlement is a transportation hub along the Iyo Highway (National Route 192) and the Tokushima Line. From the Edo period to the early Meiji period, it was a center for indigo cultivation, and later became a mulberry plantation and rice paddy field via the Asana irrigation channel.
