A film actor. Born in Hyogo Prefecture. Dropped out of Keio University. While still a student, he made his debut in 1956 with "Season of the Sun," a film adaptation of his brother Ishihara Shintaro's novel, and quickly became famous as part of the "Taiyo-zoku" (Sun tribe), a group that symbolized the youth culture of the 1950s. In the same year, he starred in "Kurutta Kajitsu" (Crazy Fruit) and rose to stardom. In 1957, "Arashi o Yobu Otoko" (The Man Who Brings Storms) was an unprecedented hit. With his long legs and a face that was sweet yet wild, he gained overwhelming support as a new type of hero, and became Nikkatsu's biggest moneymaker. He also sang low-pitched songs such as "I'm Waiting," "Ginza no Koi no Monogatari," "Akai Hankachi," and "Yogiri yo Konya mo Arigatou (Thank You Tonight)," which marked an era, and in 1967 he received a special award at the Japan Record Awards. In 1963, he founded Ishihara Productions and became its president. He produced ambitious works such as "Alone in the Pacific," which won the Arts Festival Award in the same year, and "The Sun of Kurobe" in 1968. In 1972, he appeared in the TV movie "Taiyo ni Hoero!" and gained attention as a popular star in living rooms across the nation. He passed away on July 17, 1987.
