Draparnaldia plumosa (Vauch.) C.Ag.

C.Ag.
Draparnaldia plumosa (Vauch.) C.Ag.
It is a grass or light green filamentous green alga that grows on stones, stakes, and other substrates in streams and ditches with relatively clean water throughout Japan, and its body has a clear distinction between the main axis and lateral branches. The main axis is roughly barrel-shaped, about 50 μm in diameter, and is 2-3 cm long, with similarly sized cells joined in a single row, branching oppositely or alternately. The branches are also clearly divided into the main axis and secondary lateral branches, and the overall shape of the branches is long and spindle-shaped. A similar species, D. glomerata (Vauch.) Ag., is known in Japan, but the overall shape of the branches is spherical or fan-shaped.
