Kaminari - Thunder

The title of a Kyogen piece. Demon Kyogen. In the Izumi school, it is written as "Thunder". Kaminari (shite, wearing a Buaku mask) falls in front of a quack doctor who has fled the capital and is heading down to Azuma. Kaminari misses the clouds and hits his lower back hard. Hearing that it is a doctor, he asks for treatment. The quack doctor takes out a large needle and drives it into Kaminari's lower back with a mallet, causing him to writhe in pain, but his chronic gout is cured. In exchange for the treatment, Kaminari promises to bring moderate rainfall so that there will be no droughts or floods for 800 years, and says he will make the quack doctor the head of the medical department. He then leaves the stage with another thunderclap of "Hikkari hikari, gurari gurari." Kyogen often makes fun of religious people, but even though the doctor calls himself a quack doctor, he affirms the usefulness of medicine. This shows the distinctive feature of Kyogen that is closely aligned with real life.

狂言の曲名。鬼狂言。和泉(いずみ)流では「雷」と書く。都落ちし吾妻(あづま)へ下る藪(やぶ)医者の目の前に、神鳴（シテ。武悪(ぶあく)の面を使用）が落ちてくる。雲間を踏み外し、したたかに腰を打った神鳴は、医者と聞いて治療を頼む。藪医者が大きな針を取り出し、木槌(きづち)で「ハッシハッシ」と神鳴の腰に打ち込むと、神鳴は七転八倒して痛がるが、持病の痛風まで治ってしまう。神鳴は治療代がわりに、800年間干魃(かんばつ)も水害もないよう、ほどよく雨を降らせることを約束し、藪医者を典薬頭(てんやくのかみ)にしてやろうと言い残して、ふたたび「ヒッカリヒッカリ、グヮラリグヮラリ」と雷鳴をとどろかして退場。狂言は宗教者のほとんどを笑いの対象としているが、藪医者と自称しているにもかかわらず、医者にはその効用を肯定する。あくまで現実生活に寄り添う狂言の特徴が表れている。
