SEASAT

...A scientific satellite whose purpose is to observe oceans, such as sea surface temperature, ocean winds, waves, and sea surface height. The first was the American SEASAT, launched in June 1978. Since then, several ocean observation satellites have been launched, and weather satellites are also equipped with ocean observation equipment.
