In 49, his mother became the wife of the Emperor Claudius, and in the following year, 50, he was adopted by the emperor. Since he was older than the emperor's biological son Britannicus, who was born to his former wife Messalina, he had priority in the succession to the throne. In 53, he married Octavia, the sister of Britannicus. In 54, his mother poisoned Claudius, and Nero became emperor at the age of 16, and took the long title of Nero, Claudius, Caesar, Augustus, Germanicus. …
