① The child of a human being. A child who is in accordance with human morality. Also, a word used to describe a human being in terms of smallness and youth. A person. ⇔ A person's parent. ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 16:3799 "There is no such thing as this. I will not be able to endure the words of a human child from my own body. I will rely on him." ※Makura (end of 10th century) 119 "A filial human child." ② A descendant. ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 18:4094 "A human child will not lose the name of his ancestor , but will serve the great lord." ③ A child of someone else. A beloved child of someone else. ※Eika (around 1028-92) Koromo no tama "Seeing her as a human child, I envy her, and wonder if she is a child I would like to have." ④ A daughter still dependent on her parents. Also, a woman who has become a wife of another man. ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 2.122 "The great ship is anchored, and the child is lost in thought, for he is a strong man .
