...There are about 60 species of crabs in Japan that belong to the family Leucanthemum. In shallow waters, there are many distinctive species, such as the long-horned leucanthemum crab L. anatum , which has a protruding forehead, the four-spotted leucanthemum crab L. craniolaris , which has a prominent pattern, and the long-armed leucanthemum crab Myra fugax , which has a remarkably long pair of claws. The most familiar species is the small leucanthemum crab Philyra pisum , which can be found on the tidal flats of inland bays. They are particularly common in early spring, when clam-digging is in full swing, and males can be seen holding females from behind.
