Secunderabad (English spelling)

...To distinguish it from the city of the same name in southern Pakistan, this city located in the central Deccan Plateau is sometimes called Hyderabad Deccan. It is a twin city consisting of Hyderabad in the narrow sense, which straddles both the north and south banks of the Musi River, and Secunderabad, which spreads north across the artificial lake Hussain Sagar (built in 1592). As a result of the defeat of the Vijayanagar Empire by the Muslim coalition forces in the Battle of Talikota in 1565, the Qutb Shahi dynasty based in Golconda Fort, 8 km to the west, increased in importance, and the foundation for the formation of a large city was laid here.
