A former town in Ena County, southeastern Gifu Prefecture. It occupies part of the Tono Mountains, and the town is in a small basin where the Meichi Railway runs. Currently, the town is centered on ceramics, but also produces wood-related and machine parts. It also produces tomatoes and konjac. In October 2004, it was incorporated into Ena City along with the towns of Iwamura, Yamaoka, Kamiyahagi, and Kushihara in Ena County. Area: 67.13 km2 . Population: 6,922 (2003). 岐阜県南東部,恵那(えな)郡の旧町。東濃(とうのう)山地の一部を占め,小盆地に明知鉄道が通じる市街がある。現在は窯業を中心に,木材関連,機械部品などの工業を行う。トマト,コンニャクなども産する。2004年10月恵那郡岩村町,山岡町,上矢作町,串原村と恵那市へ編入。67.13km2。6922人(2003)。
