…Published by the Keijo Ilbo. In opposition to Korean-language newspapers such as the Daehan Maeil Shinbo (Daehan Mainei Shinbo) that were taking an anti-Japanese stance, along with the English-language newspaper The Seoul Press, which was launched at the same time, it was a powerful media outlet for the Japanese Resident-General. In 1910, with the establishment of the Government-General of Korea, Tokutomi Soho of the Kokumin Shimbunsha was appointed as director and under his guidance, and the newspaper also purchased the Daehan Maeil Shinbo, renamed it, and launched the Hangul newspaper Maeil Shinbo in October of the same year (it separated and became independent in 1924, and changed its title to Maeil Shinbo in 1938). …
