In opposition to Korean-language newspapers such as the Daehan Maeil Shinbo (Daehan Mainei Shinbo) that were taking an anti-Japanese stance, along with the English-language newspaper The Seoul Press, which was launched at the same time, it was a powerful media outlet for the Japanese Resident-General.
