It is an emotional travelogue, completely different in style from the general travelogues of the time, which described nature, scenery and facts. It covers Calais, Rouen, Paris, Bourbonnais and Lyon, but the description of Italy, as mentioned in the title, is missing because the author died of illness and it ended in two volumes. It is based on the author's travels for medical treatment (1765-66), but is written not in accordance with his illness or his actions, but with the author's emotional reactions to specific events, and the nature of play is emphasized throughout the book. ...
