Anti-war and peace movements

Japanese: 反戦･平和運動 - はんせんへいわうんどう

The anti-war and peace movement is a mass movement opposed to war itself or to the very situation that threatens to cause war. In other words, it is a general term for mass movements that reject war and everything that leads to war. The spiritual or ideological background of such anti-war and peace movements is based on three elements: (1) a religious stance that preaches love for one's neighbor, (2) a humanitarian stance that respects human beings, and (3) a socialist stance that aims for human liberation.

反戦･平和運動とは，戦争そのもの，あるいは戦争が引き起こされそうな事態そのものに反対する大衆的な運動のことをいう。別な言い方をするならば，戦争と戦争につながる一切のものを拒否する大衆的な運動を総称するといえよう。　こうした反戦･平和運動の精神的あるいは思想的背景をなすものには，(1)隣人愛を説く宗教的立場，(2)人間尊重の人道主義(ヒューマニズム)の立場，(3)人間解放をめざす社会主義の立場，の三つがある。
