This refers to the region where the Andes run vertically from Colombia to northern Chile. The Andes run north to south across the equator, and have complex topography and climatic conditions, which have given rise to a corresponding diversity of human life since ancient times. When considering the nature of the Andes and the human problems that exist there, it is convenient to divide the Andes region into the Northern Andes and the Central Andes. The Northern Andes is the region of Colombia and Ecuador, where the Andes are low in altitude and receive heavy rainfall. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
