Andean Region

Japanese: アンデス地方 - アンデスちほう

This refers to the region where the Andes run vertically from Colombia to northern Chile. The Andes run north to south across the equator, and have complex topography and climatic conditions, which have given rise to a corresponding diversity of human life since ancient times. When considering the nature of the Andes and the human problems that exist there, it is convenient to divide the Andes region into the Northern Andes and the Central Andes. The Northern Andes is the region of Colombia and Ecuador, where the Andes are low in altitude and receive heavy rainfall.

コロンビアからチリ北部にかけてアンデス山脈が縦走する地域をいう。赤道を横切って南北に長く走るアンデス山脈は，地形と気候条件が複雑で，古くからそれに対応する人間生活の多様性を生んできた。アンデス山脈の自然とそこにおける人間の問題を考えるにあたり，アンデス地方を北アンデスと中央アンデスに二分しておくのが便利であろう。　北アンデスは，コロンビアとエクアドルの地域で，アンデス山脈は高度が低くなり，かつ雨量が多い。
