After World War II, Hungary became a People's Republic in 1949 after a struggle between various political parties. Until the 1950s, peasant writers active before the war, such as Szabó Pál (1893-1970), Veres Péter (1897-1970), and Németh, as well as communist writers such as Deli and Illés Endre (1895-1974), who had returned to society from exile or imprisonment, published full-length novels one after another. However, this was the era of Rákosi's personality cult, and dogmatism was evident in literature as well, and it was not until the Hungarian Incident of 1956 that true postwar literature blossomed. …
