Seven Sisters. A collective term for seven traditional and famous private women's colleges in the eastern United States: Barnard College (New York), Bryn Mawr College (Pennsylvania, Tsuda Umeko's alma mater), Mount Holyoke College (Massachusetts), Radcliffe College (Massachusetts, part of Harvard University), Smith College (Massachusetts), Vassar College (New York, now coeducational; Oyama Sutematsu's alma mater), and Wellesley College (Massachusetts), but this term is not used much these days. There are currently about 60 women's colleges in the United States, and they are focusing on nurturing future social leaders.
