A city on the western edge of the Junggar Basin in the northern part of the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, China. Population 220,000 (1994). It developed with the development of oil fields in 1955, and today is an oil industrial city with various departments such as exploration, mining, machinery manufacturing, and scientific research. It was incorporated as a city in 1958. It produces high-quality oil with low sulfur content and a low freezing point, which is sent to refineries in Dushanzi in the south, Urumqi (Urumqi) in the east, and Lanzhou.
