He preached a mystical doctrine with a strong heretical tendency, and gained widespread support from the people under the Ottoman Empire, who had been defeated by Timur. During the interregnum he served as the chief priest (kazasker) of Prince Musa. When Mehmed I came to power, he led a rebellion centered in the Dobroca region.
