Japanese: アジア主義 - アジアしゅぎ

A trend in modern Japan's foreign policy seen consistently until Japan's defeat in the war. It is extremely complex and difficult to grasp, as it is linked to various political positions and its specific content constantly changes as Japan's international status changes. However, its greatest characteristic is that while it advocated for uniting with Asian countries such as China to counter pressure from the Western powers and liberating Asia from that oppression, it consciously or unconsciously played a role in preempting or replacing the great powers' invasion of Asia, allowing Japan to invade Asia.

敗戦までの近代日本に一貫して見られる対外態度の一傾向。さまざまな政治的立場と結びつき，かつ日本の国際的地位の変化につれてたえず具体的内容が変化しているので，きわめて複雑でとらえがたい。しかし，中国などアジア諸国と連帯して西洋列強の圧力に対抗し，その抑圧からアジアを解放しようといった主張を掲げつつ，意識的または無意識的に，列強のアジア侵出に先制して，もしくはそれにとって代わって，日本をアジアに侵出させる役割を果たした点に，最大の特徴がある。
