...In other words, Sinology is the study of Chinese history, religion, philosophy, academics, language, literature, art, and ethnic groups, as well as the historical study of politics, economics, law, and society. However, the study of Chinese geology, weather, animals, plants, minerals, and the description and investigation of the current state of politics, economics, law, and society do not fall within the scope of Sinology. The term Sinology was formerly called Shinology, and is still sometimes used today. It was originally a translation of Sinologie, which arose in the West, especially in France, in the 18th century. The essence of this academic style also exists in mainland China, where it was called Kokugaku or Kangaku, but in the 20th century, a school of Chinese studies that flourished in Kyoto, Japan, centered around Kano Naoki and Naito Konan, created an academic society called the Sinology Society, which included researchers and students of philosophy, literature, and history, and the group of members who edited and published the magazine "Sinology" as an offshoot of this society was called the Sinology Society, with an awareness of Western Sinology. ...
