Japanese: タイミンタチバナ - たいみんたちばな

A small tree of the Ardisiaceae family found in mountainous areas, it grows to a height of 2-12 m. The leaves are alternate, usually clustered at the ends of branches, oblong-lanceolate or oblanceolate, 8-15 cm long, hairless, soft and leathery, crushed at the tip, gradually narrowing at the base, and entire margin. The midrib is elevated on the underside. In spring, several flowers grow in clusters in the leaf axils in an umbel shape. The corolla is reddish purple and has 5 deep lobes. The corolla lobes are green and recurved. The fruit is globular, 6-7 mm in diameter, ripens purple, and contains one seed.

山地に見られるヤブコウジ科の小高木で，高さ2～12mとなる。葉は互生し，通常，枝の先端に集まってつき，長楕円状披針形または倒披針形，長さ8～15cm，毛がなく，やわらかい革質で，先端はつぶれ，基部はしだいに狭くなり，ふちは全縁。裏面で中肋は隆起する。春，葉腋（ようえき）に数個の花を散形状に束生する。花冠は紅紫色で5深裂する。花冠裂片は緑色で反曲する。果実は球形で径6～7mm，紫色に熟し，なかに1個の種子を含む。
